Outcomes
On completion of this course participants will efficiently create, enhance and access graphically rich and multimedia information within PDF documents for both interactive online use and commercial printing.
Prerequisites
Microsoft Windows Introduction, or equivalent knowledge.
An introductory windows based wordprocessing package (such as Lotus WordPro or Microsoft Word) is strongly suggested.

Experience preparing documents containing advanced layout techniques (text frames, layers, etc)

Topics Covered in this session
- First look at Acrobat; the toolbars, navigation, pageviews, thumbnails, bookmarks.
- Creating PDFs from Microsoft Word, Excell, Access and other page layout applications such as Adobe InDesign and QuarkXPress
- Automating the PostScript to PDF conversion process; setting up watched folders, printing to watched folders.
- Making changes to PDF files, using the Acrobat touch-up tools.
- Creating bookmarks; viewing, adding bookmarks, sorting and reordering bookmarks, setting bookmark properties.
- Thumbnails and document pages; selecting pages, adding pages from another document, extracting pages, deleting pages, changing page order, replacing, rotating and cropping pages.
- Creating links in a PDF; using the link tool, understanding actions, placing a movie and linking to it, adding sound links, setting link destinations, adding an internet link, editing, moving a link.

- Indexing your PDF collection using Acrobat Catalogue; pdf summary details, indexing pdfs, searching pdf collections.
- Comments and document mark-up; setting up "identity" preferences, adding comments to a document, deleting, importing and exporting comments. Summarising document comments.
- Creating PDF Forms using the form tool, field types, appearance, actions, format, calculations, validation
- Working with buttons, creating a button icon, going to the next page, using a simple JavaScript for navigation buttons, repeating buttons across pages.
- Using digital signatures; signature handler, setting up a personal profile, self sign security, trusted certificates, signing a document, verifying signatures.

Performance-based objectives- Create Acrobat PDF documents using existing content from file format's such as Microsoft Word
- Editing the content of Acrobat PDF documents
- Creating bookmarks and links within Acrobat PDF documents
- Creating Indexes and Catalogues of Acrobat PDF documents
